Suggestion: Gas stations fix paint too

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:52 PM PST

I really hate staring at my car during loading screens, and the paint is all fucked up because I touched a pole on the way to a race lol. I was really surprised gas station repairs don't apply to your paint.

At the very least, can our cars be clean during the loading screen?

Avoiding Cops and Farming Rep - Everything You Need to Know About Night Driving

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 07:12 AM PST

I've reached Rep Level 50 and haven't progressed the story past the 4th mission because I got caught in a vicious cycle of leveling up, unlocking new events, doing those events and leveling up, etc. etc.

The point is, I've done a lot of night driving and can provide a tip or two about how to deal with cops, how to effectively farm rep and how to get away clean when things get heated. It's not just me, however, there are several users and posts on this sub that have also contributed and I will be crediting them accordingly.

Raising your Heat Level WITHOUT Getting into Pursuits

Completing a night event raises your Heat level, even if a cop never saw you during the race. Obviously, the higher the performance rating, the more your heat will rise. For example, a 330+ event will take you from Heat 0 to about 2 and a half.

When you're finished, open the map and strategically make your way to another event. Check the map frequently to avoid cops along your route and adjust your course as necessary. With this method, you can chain together race after race and easily reach heat level 4 or even 5 without getting into a single pursuit in free roam.

    Sprint vs Circuit Events

If you're attempting to raise your heat with minimal police interference, you should compete in Sprint events only (point-to-point races). Circuit events keep you in the same general area and because the game spawns cops along the race route, you will almost always get into pursuits.

The idea behind effective rep farming is that you DO NOT want to be in a pursuit as you finish a race. That way, when an event ends, you can open your map and sneakily make your way to another one and start it up. You cannot do this if you're being pursued at the end of an event.

Circuit races make it very difficult to get away clean at the end. You have a much better chance of getting away in a Sprint race because the way the game often spawns cops will give you ample opportunity to pull away from them on a straight section, downhill section, or tight turns. This is very hard to do in a circuit race because they will spawn and stick around in the general area.

Hover over each event in the map and a green line will show you the race route. This is an easy way to determine which ones are Sprints and which are Circuits.

Avoid Speed Traps when you want to stay out of Trouble

You may have noticed that when you blast through a Speed Trap at night, you'll hear the dispatcher say something like "I want that driver found!" or "Somebody go check it out". These aren't random call-outs, the game actually spawns a cop who will make his way over to the Speed trap you just went through.

I will say however, that it's not always consistent, and some players have experienced randomly spawning cops even though they were nowhere near a speed trap.

Agent Smith memes aside, if you're making your way to a garage to end the night and see a speed trap coming up, just calmly drive around it. Otherwise, you risk getting into another chase.

    Escaping High Heat Pursuits

Obviously, your car's performance will affect how much abuse you can manage each night. When I just began the game, just heat level 2 induced enough butt-clenching terror, anxiety and stress to accelerate my aging by at least 30 years. But now, with a car nearing performance level 400, I can run rings around low-level cops for as long as I want. Heat 4 and 5 still remain fairly challenging however.

That being said, there does come a time when you've had your fun and really need to get away. In Most Wanted '05, this is the point at which you'd lead the Rockport PD to a pursuit breaker and laugh as they are buried under a huge steaming pile of irony.

While Heat doesn't officially have a mechanic like this, a few players have figured out a way to get persistent cops off their backs.

This post from u/xTGE_Youtube2019 shows how cops seem to wreck themselves when going over the canal jump in the downtown marina. If you find yourself in a pinch, open the map and route yourself over to that particular ramp and you have a pretty good chance of getting away. Can confirm this works fairly consistently as I have tried it myself.

Another post by u/MattTheTypeRDriver shows how cops won't follow you over large drops. The video shows him driving off the edge of the quarry and onto the dirt road below and you'll notice that the cops don't follow directly after. Watching the cop on the mini-map shows him driving the long way around. I was able to recreate this consistently and am looking for other spots where this is possible. So far, the docks on the South-West side of the map are a good example, and there are some steep drops in the winding roads around the observatory area (middle-ish part of the map) in which the cop AI will take the long way around, giving you a chance to escape.

EDIT: This video by CROWNED showcases a few more locations that you can use to give the cops the slip.

    High-Heat Events and Rewards

At level 16, you'll receive a notification that "High-Heat Events" have been unlocked (thanks u/DemiqodFoxtrot for the level confirmation). These events only appear at night and are marked on the map as a spinning tire icon rather than the usual double-checkered-flag. You cannot roll up to and start these events until you reach a minimum required heat level that night.

You can hover over these events to see their heat requirement and you'll also notice a small line that says Performance Parts Reward. Next to this line will be a colored number, such as P, E, or U for example. This represents the kind of part you'll get if you win the event.

Strictly speaking, you can just buy Elite (E) and lower parts once you unlock them so I found that these races aren't worth the trouble in later stages of the game when you have a lot of money to spend.

However, look around the map each night you go out and check what High-Heat Events are available. If you see a Red "U" in the rewards tab, you should absolutely prioritize winning the event, because that is the only way to unlock the red "Ultimate" parts in the Performance customization tab.

u/Hagensx and u/HalcyonH66 confirmed that once you reach Rep Level 50, High-Heat Events will ALWAYS offer an Ultimate part. Each night will have two High-Heat events with different entry requirements: one at Heat Lv3 and another at Heat Lv5. Before Rep Level 50, these will offer "E" Elite or lower parts.

Completing High-Heat events rewards you with that part and you don't have to make it back to the safehouse to keep the parts you earned, they'll be added to your inventory even if you get busted. Thanks to u/Synthorian for pointing this out.

If you're wondering where your parts are or if it looks like you didn't get a notification that a part has been added upon entering the garage, remember to check each tab in the Performance menu and swap using LB or RB to view your inventory instead of the shop. That's where you'll find them.

    Quick and Easy Heat

If you're just shy of the next heat level, there's no need to get into a pursuit or do an event. Quietly make your way to an area with billboards, jumps and speed traps and you can do them over and over to slowly accumulate more heat. Obviously, check your map frequently to avoid cops.

This is a good way to reach the heat requirement for certain events of if you're just shy of a higher multiplier before turning in for the night.

    Thanks u/1trickana for this tip.

    Wrapping Up

I hope this helps new players as well as people who are decently deep into the game already. This was based on my experience but also contributions by several other players.
