Need for Speed Heat - Update 1.4 - Update notes

    Hello there!

We'll be releasing update 1.4 for all platforms tomorrow, Thursday, November 21st.

The update notes include the notes for the recent PC update 1.3 as well.

Thank you to everyone for reporting bugs and providing feedback - we appreciate the passion you bring to the franchise. Please keep sharing pictures and videos of your fantastic builds and liveries - we'll see you in Palm City.

    The Need for Speed team

    Update Notes

    Environment - Night race intros

You've reported long loading screens before the start of races, and we have made an effort to reduce these. While we hope you'll notice this improvement, you might also notice something else. When you play after the update, the visual effects will be less spectacular during the intro and start of a night race. More specifically, there'll be no fancy lights, smoke, fire or spectator's cars. While this isn't ideal, we wanted to improve the stability and reduce loading times in the short run, and we are aiming at bringing back these effects in a future update.

    Fixes

No Bank or Rep rewards awarded for playing the first races in the game.

Some players would not earn any Bank or Rep rewards when they first played the game. Prior to the update, this could be resolved by restarting the game - which should no longer be necessary now, as it shouldn't be happening anymore in the first place.

    Inventory sync error

There were rare cases where upon choosing "Play Solo" or "Play Online", players would be prompted with a message that their local and online inventories do not match, and asking if they wanted to sync them. In a few cases, when choosing yes, Bank and cars would disappear, while story progression and Rep level remained.

We're sorry this happened - it should now no longer occur, and players should find the Pre-Order and Deluxe cars again in the dealership to purchase for 0 Bank.

    Crashes & Freezes

You reported that using community wraps or wraps with a high amount of layers could cause some issues. We've taken a closer look, and this should no longer cause the game to crash.

Additionally, we fixed some other instances where the game could freeze or crash, which should increase the overall stability of the game client.

    Other fixes:

    • Fixed an issue where trial users could experience an extended black screen when they first launched the game.
    • Fixed an issue where players were unable to invite crew members using the search function.
    • Fixed an issue where using a specific controller on PC could crash the game.

    Release Timing - November 21st

    • PC - 09:00 UTC
    • PS4 - 10:00 UTC
    • Xbox One - 11:00 UTC

    Estimated File Sizes

    • PC - 852 MB
    • PS4 - TBA
    • Xbox One - TBA

While Ghost and NFS are celebrating a huge milestone with the 25th anniversary of the series, our beloved subreddit isn't too far behind either, because we have just hit 50,000 members!

Whether you came here to chat with fellow NFS fans, found us via the NFS Discord server or through NFSRides, this community has become the Reddit hub for all things Need for Speed!

So thanks for subscribing and joining for the ride. With Heat's first updates slowly starting to drop, it's likely that good things are to come for both the game and the series as a whole!

Cheers for 50,000 members and beyond!

Open letter to devs: Improving the longevity of NFS heat for both the community and the game.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 08:46 PM PST

    Hey all,

Over my experience playing Need for Speed heat, I have been thinking about a few systems which could be implemented along with doing research on currently existing ideas which could improve the longevity of the game.

Currently I believe that Need for Speed Heat is an amazing game, however, what it is lacking is some exra online and end game content.

    Wrap improvements

The wrap editor itself I don't have a problem with at this time, however, the system that is built around wraps I believe is the current issue. There are a few systems which if put in place I believe could heavily improve wraps.

    • Allow naming and searching for wraps
    • Filter wraps by base colour

Both of these would allow users to more easily share and find creations they love. I have seen so many amazing wraps that people have created on this subreddit alone and thinking to myself I would have to search through hundreds of wraps by the "recent wraps" filter to find it.

    • Community wrap competitions

This is one I personally believe could work best on something such as this subreddit. Allowing a weekly or bi-weekly wrap contest with a specific theme in mind. Winners would get featured for a week while displaying the detail for next week.

Allowing players to both choose the car they want to wrap and how they want to tackle the weeks theme would motivate people to get creative with their wraps and to truly see what people can come up with in the community.

    UX Improvements

There are a heavy amount of user experience improvements I believe need to be put in place to alleviate frustrations in the game:

    • Heat level visible during "race finish" to understand how close to unlocking high heat races you are.
    • Map increased to 60 FPS
    • "escape" dialogue to not be centred in the screen (often blocks traffic causing unnecessary crashing)
    • The number of repairs you have left in a night on the hud
    • Manual gears currently will accept races when changing gears
    • Improved party menu (That thing is so confusing first time around and is frustrating to use)

Another big one is explaining a lot of the controls. I am unaware currently of the controller experience, however, not having played Need for Speed 2015 or payback I had no clue how to open the live tuning menu or what the button was to use my active items at night were.

    Quality of life features

These are some things I have seen a few people suggest along with a few of my own ideas which I know people would love to see.

    • Rep leaderboards (a heat list) for both individuals and crews
    • Leaderboards for activities between friends and crew. I'd love to go around beating my mates' drift mini games top scores.
    • Additional race start animations. Seeing the same animation of a guy taking a photo of the rear of my car gets old fast, 3-4 more that cycle through randomly would be great.

Those are a few of my suggestions, I will be adding more in the comments as I think of them. Do you have any ideas for improving the longevity? Would be interested to hear!
