In my math project, I want to see if there is a relationshiå between people playing racing games, and their behavior in traffic. I am collecting data using a completelt anonymous survey. So I would be very thankful if you could help me by filling it out!

    Payback vs Heat

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 07:40 PM PDT

So I finally got NFS Payback and beat the game since it was free on PS+ and I absolutely loved the campaign. For starters, it wasn't nearly as quick as Heat's and character development was actually pretty solid. Sure the actual storyline itself was a typical "i'm out for vengeance" but I actually enjoyed it.

In terms of current-gen NFS games, I actually started out with Heat, and in all honesty, the campaign disappointed me. I remember being introduced to officer shaw and his Camaro and thinking "oh shit, this guy is probably the sgt Cross of this game", especially after he impounded Ana's car and they showed him a lot in the trailers. Boy was I wrong. The dude literally gets yeeted out of the story early on in the campaign after u finish one of your races and he is never seen again. You do a little bit of recon missions here and there, but nothing compared to Payback's "runner" storyline.

The final mission of Heat was ok, but I didn't even realize it was the last one until I was 60% finished with the mission, suddenly a bunch of street racers and cops head towards the docks (which was pretty cool), a wild BMW M3 GTR appears out of nowhere and u gotta take it down and bam, story is over. No mention about the league or any of that aside from the fact that you and Anna are now members. I expected a better ending kinda like Payback's "Outlaw Rush". A final race to settle the score against the big boss.

Payback on the other hand, the campaign was great, the main goal is to get into the Outlaw's Rush which is the ultimate race in the game and take down the House. Furthermore, in order to build rep, you take down street racing crews, similar to NFS Carbon and they each specialize in a certain driving type as you make your way to the top. There's also the side story of Jess who works undercover against the House, and is a "runner" that specializes in escaping the cops and quick point-to-point driving.

The final mission of Payback was awesome, the player finally gets in the outlaw's rush, where only the top drivers participate in, while you have the main antagonist Lina Navarro doing everything she can to stop you from winning. However, all those crews that Tyler and Mac beat in the desert reappear to help Tyler win the race by unleashing hell against the cops and the house thugs.

I also loved the roaming racers that they had in the game, kinda reminded me of UG2's free roam outruns. There's also a section dedicated to drag racing, and the endgame content is definitely there, not to mention, multiplayer has speedlists, which was an fun addition (I remember it from MW2012).

Now the game isn't perfect, as shown with their slot machine way of upgrading vehicles and major RNG, but in all honesty, I never had to repeat a race to get a certain speedcard because I either had enough part tokens from shipments (which i got for free), or the part shop. Regardless, NFS Heat still had the superior upgrade system.

Another problem I had with NFS Heat was the health bar system. I enjoyed Payback's where you had infinite health, but your car can look extremely beat up without suffering performance downgrades, because this way, I can go head to head and battle the cops all day, kinda like MW2012, MW2005, and Carbon. It did suck that they were scripted cop chases though, that was unfortunate. Free roam cops would have been great with a heat level system.

Unfortunately, Ghost was kicked off development so we didn't get to see this game at its full potential which was sad. Only 2 black market cars and crossplay. Hopefully NFS 2021 is a promising game.

Got a new suggestion list! (and better PC optimizations)

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 05:57 PM PDT

Hey! I'm thinking of some suggestions for the 2021 NFS game. But this time, Criterion Games should also take cues from Hot Pursuit Remastered, and have it as partial inspirations for the new game alongside Heat. And we also need a cop side story or at least a cop chasedown game mode (I'll write about it later). Here's my suggestions I wrote.

    Storylines (optional)

For the storyline (if they ever need one), I got some cues from Undercover, Rivals and Heat. There should be two player characters for both sides of the story, a street racer who partakes in the street racing scenes, and an undercover cop who tries to stop street racing scenes. But this time these two would cooperate each other in some parts of story, making them Undercover-esque in the latter parts of story. (Heat had racer-cop cooperation but doesn't go Undercover-esque.) Make it Rashomon-style to make up for unexpected plot twists, since racer sides and cop sides should not always be enemies to each other.

If they want to go different one, they should use World Tour aesthetic like those in High Stakes, ProStreet, Shift and Nitro. There is no need for the story IMO, since World Tour story is way too often used.

And here are the types of events I have thought so far:

    Racer events:

    • Circuit race
    • Sprint race
    • Speed trap
    • Off-road circuit race
    • Off-road sprint race
    • Time trial
    • Off-road time trial
    • Drag race
    • Off-road drag race
    • Pink-slip race

    Cop events:

    • Cop time trial (Time trials with cop cars)
    • Hot Pursuit/Chasedown Event (similar to the one in PS2 Undercover)
    • Highway Battle (similar to the one in Undercover PS3/PC)
    • Chain Chasedown Event (Chasedown Mode with unlimited busts in limited time)
    • Cop drag race

    Customization:

The customization feature is confirmed to be in the new game, so I expect different bodykits and upgrades systems from Heat. (Also, not the loot box gambling ones in Payback.)

Yasid Designs is going to make some awesome bodykits for Criterion Games' next NFS. Sounds awesome. But don't get me started with that widebody Bugatti Chiron.

Fine-tuning systems should be more expansive and in-depth like in NFS3 or HIgh Stakes, or ProStreet or Shift 2. Not simplified ones like in Ghost Games NFS.

There should be certain events where limited customization can be allowed. Like, races with stock cars only, or events allowing only fully-upgraded cars.

And now, we can put the car listing in:

    Player racer cars:

    • Acura NSX 1991
    • Acura NSX 2017
    • Ariel Nomad 2020

For motorcycles, I am not sure about it, so we can talk about them later if possible.

Other stuff I should mention, the new NFS game should be better optimized for PCs, especially those with AMD GPUs. Previous NFS games were quite poorly-optimized on computers despite lesser content than most older games.

    What do you think? :)

I hope you guys at Criterion could read my suggestions, and make everyone in the NFS fanbase happy.

    Payback offroad races

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 11:19 PM PDT

Please someone help me! I'm stuck at the offroad races!!!

I've got the Porsche at level 271 and I just can't upgrade it to match the Junkjard slalom's around 330 recommendation. And I just can't race the other cars, they're so fast even if they mistake a lot. I always hit something, or the car just suddenly start fishtailing. This is just so annoying, everything else is so good in this game, but the offroad races are near impossible even on easy...

    😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

    Is NFS: Heat worth it?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 06:46 PM PDT

I've been thinking about getting NFS Heat for a while, but I've seen some reviews where people say the game is too short, but I've also seen the amount of customization and cars the game has. Also, is the wonky handling from NFS 2015 fixed?

NFS has had separate cities/towns in on map before, and it sure can have more

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:28 PM PDT

You know how a lot of people (most famously Yuwan Thayakaran) are requesting that the next NFS game's map include more than one city/map? It's nothing new and it's happened in other NFS games before, the latest being the separate small town of Fort Callahan in NFS Heat.

That means it's possible that we might just get more cities/small towns in the future, and if I could choose to put it in such a way, I'd make it for there to be TWO big cities, as well as a handful of small towns with a few buildings scattered across the map. It seems like a nice little touch and now that gaming technology has allowed more game companies to exploit this, I feel it's possible for EA and Crit to do so as well.

However, remember this is only speculation.

***[plz. ADVICE 4 a PC Noob] Need For Speed Franchise Steam Sale

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 06:00 PM PDT

    yoooo my doods.

Okay so I wanna get an nfs game from steam on my laptop- I got these specs (not too sure what they mean).....

-AMD Ryzen 3 3200U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (4 CPUs) 2.6GHz, AMD Radeon Vega 3 Graphics, AMD Radeon Graphics Processor, 8192MB RAM 2034 Display Memory (VRAM?), 80gb left on my SSD hard drive storage thing. (also can someone please tell me what my specs are in a simpler form for future reference - Lenovo AMD flex-14 2 in-1 laptop from a couple of years ago)

    ANYWAYS,

    in the steam sale, there's

-NFS Heat, Payback, Rivals, MW2012, Shift, Shift2, Undercover, burnout paradise, and NFS2015

and I wanna get one of them for sure cuz I have wanted a decent fun NFS racing game for a while now. However, I do know that I am more limited in choice due to my somewhat potato laptop lol and as such I am writing to you all for recommendations as to what I should do. Ideally, I'd want sumn like Forza horizon 4-or heat, that ain't happening so, ya what should I get. I love customizing cars a lot so nfs2015 appeals to me however I tried getting it in the past and it was extremely laggy and my Xbox one controller couldn't work properly on it so I refunded- but maybe I was doing something wrong and someone here has tips on how to make it work with my setup (because I thought I met all the needed specs but?)

Ok this is getting stupid long- I think yall get the point, thanks for reading if u did, and suggestions in the comments below are much appreciated. sick. thx buds
